The 2nd annual Great Celebrity Trivia Night August 30

The 2nd annual Great Celebrity Night was held on Aug 30 at new venue, Kinisi Live in Richmond. Another success, thanks to the efforts of the committee and many volunteers, raising over $6000 for Support Act. John Blackman and Wilbur Wilde hosted in their inimitable style, and later entertainment featured Jimi Hocking, Mae Parker, Kim Devereaux, Mike Brady, the band Mid-Life Crisis, and many more.

As it happened, the winning table was captained by none other than Victorian chair Keith Potger! But showing true generosity, they donated the prizes back to the room for a further fundraising auction. Thanks also to our many sponsors for helping to make this such a great night.

Below: Gina,John G,Shane,Michelle" width="300" height="417" />Congratulations to John Grant and the Support Act/Debonairs team who walked the Run Melbourne event recently. Raising funds for Support Act as they went, John even had a quick jam with one of the bands playing half-way along the track. John and the team have raised over $500 for Support Act so far, and you can still donate:
www.everydayhero.com.au/SupportActDebonairs

The Support Act Debonairs are walking to keep fit

This is your invitation to join my team for the 5km-walk event, part of RunMelbourne, on 28 June. Come on, it may be Sunday morning, but it's only a 5k stroll - we're certainly not going to run!

The Support Act Debonairs are walking to keep fit, but even more importantly, to raise money for our favourite charity, Support Act.

So, it doesn't matter if you can't join us on the day - just click the following link and make a little donation to sponsor us. We'll all win in the end! Either way, go to www.everydayhero.com.au/SupportActDebonairs.

Donate and encourage us to finish by clicking on any of the Donate Now buttons. And help keep the good work of Support Act going.

To come on the walk, take these first few steps:
Click the "Join This Team" button and enter your details to start a Fundraising Account with Everyday Hero.
On the following page you'll be asked for the password to join the team, which is, of course, "support".

After you've joined the fund-raising team, you'll get an email which reminds you that you need to register with RunMelbourne if you want to do the walk, at www.runmelbourne.com.au. That costs $40 for admin, and
gets you a number and all the official guff, and even some prezzies when you finish.

So how about it? Sign up, and/or donate - the choice is simple!

www.everydayhero.com.au/SupportActDebonairs

Any questions? Ask away. And thanks for your support.

The Inaugural Great Celebrity Trivia Night 15th October 2008

An exuberant 200 strong audience attended Support Act Victoria’s inaugural Great Celebrity Trivia Night held at the fabulously refurbished Trak Showroom in Toorak on 15th October. You’ve heard about duelling banjos but this night was all about duelling MCs as Dickie Knee’s alter ego, John Blackman and the appropriately named Wilbur Wilde took everyone on a ride down musical memory lanes. The good natured sparring between John and Wilbur set the mood for the audience to get right into the swing of things. Nothing was taken too seriously and, after some spirited brainwork (some may say guesswork) from the crowd, the perspiring folk at John Swan’s table were declared winners.

Then it was time for top level entertainment as the stage opened up for nearly two hours of non stop revelry. Performers donating their talent and time and energy for the cause of Support Act included the aforementioned Swanee, Russell Morris, Jim Keays, The Vanilla Supremes, Lisa Edwards and Michael Cristian, Ron Peers, The Mid Life Crisis Band, Kim Denereaz and all the fine players who stepped up to make the closing song one of the best renditions of IT’S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP this side of AC/DC.

The Events committee, headed by the tireless Garry Spry, worked long and hard to make this event a ‘must attend’ for next year’s social calendar. Sponsorship played a great part in maximising the income. Special thanks go to Bendigo Bank, Mt Langi Ghiran Wines, Pier 10 Wines, Lamberti Brothers, HAG Wholesalers, Plumms Restaurant, Amstel Golf Club, Resolution X Lighting, Arthur Murray Motor Inn, Visible Ink and Dianne Buettel’s Oscar Services. Many others were in there too, including John Blackman and Wilbur Wilde who donated their manic and hilarious talents, with additional questions (and answers) from Alan Howe, Dom Barbuto for invaluable help with marketing and printing and Jamie Nasser, who donated the Trak Showroom which must be one of the best venues in Australia. With events like this there are many willing hands who contribute so apologies to those who have not had a proper name check. Our thanks go to you all for your generosity and a wonderful job well done.

In the aftermath of the event it was so gratifying to hear positive feedback from those who attended so on behalf of the committee: Garry Spry, Jill Moffitt, Mae Parker, John Grant, Frank Howson, Vic Crump, Sara Hood, John Swan, Michael Snelson and Julie Cavanagh, I would like to emphasise that we’ll be back with another Great Celebrity Trivia Night to blow those musical memory cobwebs away next year. Watch this space.

Keith Potger
Chair, Support Act Limited Victoria
